NYCC Student Journal: A Fall Trimester Recap

homecoming New York Chiropractic College Fall trimesters at NYCC always fly by, and yet so much has happened this year.

We started off this trimester with one of the largest events hosted by the school for students, alumni, faculty and staff: Homecoming. This year, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of our campus in the beautiful Finger Lakes.

As a seventh-trimester student myself, coming back from summer break, Homecoming was a nice event to reconnect with the professors, clinicians and staff who have shaped my student experience thus far in my chiropractic education.

Dr. Joshua Kollmann, who is currently team chiropractor for the Carolina Panthers, spoke at Homecoming 2016 about his efforts with running groups down in North Carolina.

Dr. Thomas Hagan works with the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox, and other athletic teams and associations in the greater Boston area. He spoke to the students about the chiropractic path in the sports industry.

Both gave light to the multitude of opportunities post-graduation.

Another memorable event this trimester was a seminar that was offered to students, faculty, and staff on cultural competency and diversity.

It was facilitated by Dr. Khuram Hussain and Dr. Justin Rose of Hobart and William Smith Colleges. It was challenging, but so much fun all at the same time. It was a chance for our school to come together and speak openly about social issues while Drs. Hussain and Rose made it open and engaging.

When you’re going through a rigorous program like the Doctor of Chiropractic, it’s easy to forget to celebrate our different cultural experiences. We learned how to reach a new level of communicating with our peers while building a new sense of cultural competency.

After Thanksgiving, the white coat ceremony was held for the seventh-trimester class. This ceremony marks the transition from basic sciences to beginning our clinical studies in outpatient health centers.

What a trimester this has been, and the white coat ceremony was the perfect way to wrap up another school term at New York Chiropractic College!
